Sam Garnes is one of the premier strong safeties in the National Football League. Sam has been a starter for the Giants since his rookie year, and during his first professional game Sam intercepted a pass and returned it ninety-eight yards to preserve the win for the Giants. Quite a thrill considering Sam grew up a Giants fan in the Bronx. At only twenty-four years of age, Sam’s future is very bright, and he will spend many off-seasons at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

Career:
Sam was drafted in the 5th round of the 1997 Draft out of the University of Cincinnatti. Regarded by Coach Jim Fassel as one of his favorite players, Sam was promoted to being the every-down starter after the Giants released Tito Wooten. Sam is a devastating run stopper and blankets receivers in pass coverage. Many NFL personnel liken his hard-hitting style to that of Ronnie Lott, arguably one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game.

1998 Facts and Figures:
During this past season, Sam amassed 49 tackles in the 11 games that he was able to play (he missed 5 games due to a stress fracture). He was outstanding against the run and his play led coaches to realize that he was also an excellent coverage safety. This resulted in the Giants promoting Sam to playing in all of the coverage packages, including "nickel" and "dime" sets.

Personal:
Sam is single and resides in New Jersey. Sam has been a guest host on numerous television and radio shows and has done advertising work for many companies. He is very active in the community and values the time that he is able to spend doing charitable work.
